White Rose Partners with Yankees and Others to Provide Over 50 Tons of Food

Bronx, NY, Dec.14, 2011 -- White Rose Food teamed up with the New York Yankees Foundation, Domino Sugar and other manufacturers to generate over 109,000 pounds of groceries, all to be donated to families in need throughout the New York metropolitan area.

The donations made at the New York Yankees annual Holiday Food Drive were collected at Yankee Stadium’s Gate 2, near the corner of 164th Street and Jerome Avenue in the Bronx. The event was part of a joint effort held annually and spearheaded by the Bronx Bombers and supported by White Rose Food.

“We can think of no better partners than the Yankees to bring about this endeavor; and we can think of no better cause, during this holiday season, than to donate much-needed groceries to families in need,” said Luis Tejada, Marketing Director at White Rose.

“White Rose Food wishes to extend thanks to our partners for sponsoring this event. Also, just as important, we would like to thank all our valued customers for their continued patronage throughout the years,” added Dennis Hickey, Sr. Vice President at White Rose.

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Run raises a significant amount of awareness for the breast cancer movement, celebrates breast cancer surviorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. People of all ages and fitness levels are welcome to get involved.

White Rose and the Good Neighbor Program are proud to have teamed up with the Foundation Fighting Blindness as a Community Champion Sponsor of their 2011 New York City VisionWalk which took place in Central Park on Saturday, May 21st.

The Foundation Fighting Blindness is the largest public funder of medical research that works to find cures and treatments for retinal diseases. And VisionWalk is the national signature fundraising event for the Foundation. Since the VisionWalk inception in Spring of 2006, the program has raised more than $15 million to fund sight-saving search. As promising treatments move into critical human studies, the need for research funding is greater than ever before. And White Rose through it's Good Neighbor Program, is committed to doing our part in helping to find a cure.

Throughout the spring, summer and fall, a schedule of games and over 20 special tournaments featuring Major League Baseball players are played throughout the city. Although considered America’s favorite pastime, in New York City Youth League Baseball is dominated by the large Hispanic community. Professional players on the major sports teams in the city have largely influenced the increase in participation. Many of the professional players have the same roots as the Youth League Players.

The Good Neighbor program proudly sponsors 6 leagues, representing well over 100 teams and 4000 teammates. The season operates from early spring right through the entire summer. This activity offers an opportunity for the youth to learn teamwork, commitments, and social responsibility for their parks and fields. It is not uncommon for attendance at youth league games to be in excess of 2000 people.

 

We are proud to once again sponser the St. Anthony Basketball Camp, one of the most intense hight school basketball camps for boys and girls in the country. The camp took place from August 8th -21st and August 21st - 25th. Coach Gamble said they had a huge number of participants already signed up for the first and second camp. We at Good Neighbor are happy to do what we can to keep these inner city boys and girls on the court winning championships.
